WINNER: AXIS FORCES
JFC'S LONGER LASTING CAMPAIGN: 26 WEEKS
ALLIED OBJECTIVE: Conquer Normandy and pave the way for Berlin.
AXIS OBJECTIVE: Destroy the Allied Invasion force.
Review:
As the Allied tanks started mooving forwards,
it was important for the Germans to see where the allies were focusing their atacks.
Beeing outnumbered in the air, axis tanks faced great risk of exposure to enemy bombers.
The river rich terain would be employed by the axis strategists as a natural wall,
significaly stalling the allied advance aswell as forcing the allied grownd forces to take large detours, giving enouph time for the KG26 Bombers to soften the spearhead of the Allied advance.
This was called Operation Siegfried.
German forces pulled back most of their tanks, hiding them in vilages East of Caen, far away from the frontlines and enemy suspicion.
Ultimately it was operation Siegfried that stalled the allied advance and not the Panzers.
For almost 19 weeks the Ground battle apears to go for the Allies.
The frontlines in the Center and South is constantly mooving towards the German ocupied cities.
St Paul is captured from the Allied forces, and so is the nearby frontline Luftwaffe bf109 figher base.
Bayeux
In the North, Allied ground forces will eventualy quit their atemts to captue Bayeux,
having failed to capture the city for over 16 weeks.
Bayeux turns into a ghost town, and the remainder of allied tanks are pulled back in defencive positions, west of Bayeux.
CAMPAIGN NEWSPAPER (AXIS PROPAGANDA)
Last Allied ofencive:
Large Sherman formations will finaly atempt to break through the midle section of the map,
in an atempt to encircle Caen from the South, and finaly capture the city.
It was at this time that the bulk of the reserved Panzers were finaly ordered to counteratack.
The result was a Waterloo for the Allied ground units.
In 3 weeks, the Wermacht had regained all the ground lost in 18 weeks
and was now on the perimiters of the Allied NorthEastern airfields.
AXIS COUNTERATACK ON THE CLOSING STAGES OF THE CAMPAIGN:
Allied Hopes:
If there was one problem the Axis, it was Major Phantom,
and his P 47.
The commander of the Allied forces, singlehandedly took out more than 200 Axis Tanks.
The threat was considered so important, that a special directive was put out towards axis fighters to hunt down
Major Phantoms p47 and all other rocket cariyng plane at all costs.
Air Warfare:
In the air, Allied fighters seemed to control the air battles throughout the campaign,
with the exeption of a few good days for the Luftwaffe's fighters.
The spitfire mark 9 prooved to be the superior plane, and with the aid of larger numbers,
gave nightmares to 109 and 190 pilots.
It was the very succesfull KG26 that finaly cleared the field for the Axis,
being the only wing of the luftwaffe that specificaly targeted Allied tanks.
Only in the final weeks, did the fighter wing of Fw's, turn more towards Jabo missions,
shifting their attention from Siegfried (Bridge) missions, to the remainder of Allied tanks.
